Abstract
The article focuses on the V-Force, Great Britain's advanced Cold War bomber fleet, which included the Vickers Valiant, Avro Vulcan, and Handley Page Victor, all designed to deliver nuclear payloads. The Valiant was notable for being the first British aircraft to drop both an atomic and a nuclear bomb, but it was retired early due to metal fatigue. In contrast, the Vulcan and Victor adapted to new military strategies and continued to serve in various capacities, including combat operations during the Falklands War in 1982. The accompanying book by Jonathan Glancey also explores the broader context of nuclear weapons development, the role of allied bombers, and the legacy of the V-Force, including efforts to preserve the last flying Vulcan.
