Abstract

The article focuses on Deepacres, a luxury apartment block in Adelaide, designed by architect Jack Hobbs McConnell and completed in 1943. This building, characterized by its Interwar Functionalist style, was commissioned by Jenny Jolly and represented a significant shift in residential architecture for the region, moving away from traditional styles like bungalows and Art Deco. Deepacres featured innovative design elements such as combined living and dining areas, built-in furnishings, and a layout that prioritized functionality and luxury, all set within a generous garden space. After more than 80 years, it remains a state heritage-listed landmark and a notable example of modernist architecture in Adelaide. [Extracted from the article]
