Abstract

Kate Cox, a woman from Texas, wanted to have a large family but faced a devastating diagnosis during her pregnancy. Doctors informed her that her baby had a life-threatening genetic condition called trisomy 18. Cox and her husband made the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy due to the risks involved. However, abortion is illegal in Texas except in urgent medical situations, and Cox did not qualify for an exception. As a result, she became the first pregnant woman to sue for the right to an abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Cox's case highlights the dangers of abortion bans and has made her a reluctant advocate for reproductive rights. [Extracted from the article]
