Abstract
Krystal Tsosie, a geneticist-bioethicist at Arizona State University, is advocating for Indigenous data sovereignty. Growing up in the Navajo Nation and witnessing the challenges faced by her community in accessing healthcare and the exploitation of Indigenous DNA by Western science, Tsosie realized the need for Indigenous geneticists to protect Indigenous data and empower Indigenous peoples. In 2018, she co-founded the Native BioData Consortium, an Indigenous-led research institute that supports various projects for Indigenous communities. Tsosie also leads the Tsosie Lab for Indigenous Genomic Data Equity and Justice at ASU and is dedicated to uplifting the next generation of Indigenous scientists. [Extracted from the article]
