Abstract

Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar claimed that India was discovered by a merchant named Chandan, not Vasco da Gama, and that the Americas were not discovered by Christopher Columbus but by an Indian philosopher. He made these claims during a convocation at Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya in Bhopal. Parmar has previously courted controversy with his claims on history, including stating that Indian traders were conducting business in America in the early 11th century. He also advised students to adopt Indian culture in their lives and mentioned the New Education Policy's emphasis on Indian knowledge tradition. [Extracted from the article]
