Abstract

This article reviews a 1970s British film series adapting Agatha Christie's mysteries, highlighting how producers John Brabourne and Richard Goodwin established a prestigious formula combining star-studded casts, witty scripts by Anthony Schaffer, exotic period settings, and lavish production values. The series includes four films: *Murder on the Orient Express* (1974), praised for Sidney Lumet's suspenseful direction and Albert Finney's portrayal of Poirot; *Death on the Nile* (1978), featuring Peter Ustinov as a more whimsical Poirot amid striking locations; *The Mirror Crack'd* (1980), a Miss Marple adaptation noted for Elizabeth Taylor's performance but considered uneven; and *Evil Under the Sun* (1982), a stylish and campy Poirot mystery directed by Guy Hamilton. The collection's extensive extras and commentaries underscore its lasting influence on subsequent Christie adaptations in film and television.
