Abstract
This article reviews a recording by Trio Isimsiz featuring three piano trios: Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Piano Trio, Opus 1; Johannes Brahms’s Trio No. 2; and a 2020 work by Spanish composer Francisco Coll Garcia. Korngold’s youthful and bold four-movement trio is praised for its sweeping form, thematic development, and sensitive performance by the trio members Erdem Misirlioglu (piano), Pablo Hernan Benedi (violin), and Edvard Pogossian (cello). In contrast, the Brahms trio is criticized for unclear sound quality and lack of expressiveness, while Coll’s contemporary trio is noted for its extreme contrasts and crisp articulation, though its conventional elements are questioned. The article also highlights the absence of biographical information about both the composer Coll and Trio Isimsiz in the album materials, noting that “Isimsiz” means “nameless” in Turkish.
