Abstract

The article focuses on reframing the biopsychosocial model in sexual medicine to explicitly expand its scope for improved diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders. It highlights that while the model is widely accepted, clinicians often emphasize limited aspects, neglecting important biological, behavioral, and cultural factors, including iatrogenic effects from medical treatments and evolving cultural understandings of gender and identity. The author argues for recognizing the full range of biomedical, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, and cultural determinants to enhance clinical sensitivity and effectiveness. This expanded approach aims to foster a transdisciplinary perspective among sexual medicine professionals.
