Abstract

This article reviews a recording of Monteverdi’s opera *Orfeo* performed by Les Epopées under Stéphane Fuget, featuring tenor Julian Prégardien in the title role. The interpretation is noted for its boldness, emotional expressiveness, and interpretive freedom, including spontaneous pauses and ornamentation that enhance the drama. Prégardien’s vocal performance, especially in the “Possente spirto” monologue, is highlighted for its technical mastery and dramatic nuance. The ensemble’s cohesive yet individualistic approach to the orchestra and chorus contributes to a fresh and compelling rendition of this early music masterpiece.
