Abstract

The article chronicles the life of Marjorie Nelson, a Quaker physician from Indiana who was captured as a prisoner of war during the Tet Offensive while serving as a medical volunteer in Vietnam. Topics include her Quaker upbringing and pacifist beliefs, her harrowing captivity and treatment by North Vietnamese forces; and her postwar activism against military spending and testimony on prisoner torture.
