Abstract

The article reports on his experiences in the city of Lublin, Poland where he apprenticed under typographer Robert Sawa. He notes that Lublin was a vibrant center of Hebrew printing and bookmaking. He mentions that Sigismund II, King of Poland, granted the Jews special permission to print both sacred and popular books in the 16th century. He states that he work with Sawa in a basement full of pre-war printing machines.
