Abstract

The Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944 marked a significant turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II, as American forces returned to the Philippines after their withdrawal in 1941. However, Imperial Japan resorted to a desperate and tragic tactic to combat the powerful US Navy: the Kamikaze. These suicide pilots, driven by militaristic fanaticism and indoctrination, deliberately crashed their planes into American ships. This marked the beginning of the end for the war in the Pacific. The article also features contributions from various authors discussing topics such as the Chechen Wars, the Battle of Ortona, and the story of Father Patrick Ryan's double life as a Catholic priest and IRA operative.
