Abstract

The article takes a look into traces of Emma Katherine Craufurd, the Englishwoman who translated the works of French philosopher Simone Weil. It attributes the marginalization of Craufurd the misogyny of the time period and discusses the kind of present-absence metaphors that Weil describes when translating a text written in foreign language. It considers Craufurd's choice of words in her translations of "Gravity and Grace" and "Waiting for God."
