Abstract
The article discusses the pivotal meeting of Unionist MPs at the Carlton Club on October 19, 1922, which led to David Lloyd George's downfall as British Prime Minister. The meeting was significant in modern British party politics and Stanley Baldwin's speech marked the start of his rise to power. The 1922 Committee, which celebrates its birth on the centenary in 2022, did not originate from this meeting but was established in April 1923 by newly elected Tory members of parliament (MPs).
