Abstract

This essay argues that the language within letters young people wrote to Eleanor Roosevelt offers a standard by which to consider how the voices of fictional children in poverty in Depression-era children's literature can provide nuanced entry points or, at times, misleading impressions of how children linguistically represent poverty.
