Abstract
New York Democrats are focusing on moderate candidates in key congressional districts for the upcoming election, aiming to regain the House majority. This shift in strategy comes after the Republican sweep of swing districts in 2022. New York is a predominantly Democratic state, but voters outside of New York City tend to be more moderate. The primary victories of centrists John Avlon and John Mannion give Democrats a chance to pick up House seats. However, this strategy may risk alienating the party's progressive wing.
