Abstract
The article discusses research from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, focusing on the perceived zero-sum competition between Asian and Black Americans following the 2023 Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action. The study, which involved 1,475 participants, found that Asian and White participants were more likely than Black participants to believe that gains for Black Americans came at the expense of Asian Americans. Additionally, the research indicated that when Asian Americans viewed their relations with Black Americans in zero-sum terms, they were less supportive of Black individuals, while a belief in competition with White Americans correlated with stronger pro-Black sentiments. The findings highlight complex intergroup dynamics and perceptions within the context of race relations in the United States. [Extracted from the article]
