Abstract

B A ceasefire could see gold-mining revenues help stabilise an insecure region. b The government has signed a final peace agreement with the B Miski Self-Defence Committee b militia to end a years-long stand-off over the control of resources in the gold-rich Tibesti region in the far northwest of the country, privately-owned Chadian news website I TchadInfos i reported I (9/1) i . The agreement builds on a ceasefire agreed in November 2019 and appears to commit the Chadian government to use revenues from gold mined in the area to invest in public services and development in the region. The Miski Self-Defence Committee has accused the Chadian government of trying to seize control of the region's gold resources, the website added. [Extracted from the article]
