Abstract

For example, although Derrida often mentions Freud and Nietzsche alongside one another, Trumbull is forced to bracket the influence of Nietzsche on Derrida's theorizing on life and death. In taking Freud as a point of entry to the deconstruction of the life/death dichotomy, Trumbull does not, however, disregard the complexities and nuances of the Freud-Derrida relationship. In fact, it seems that by taking Freud as the point of entry to Derrida's deconstruction of the life/death opposition, Trumbull has unnecessarily constrained both his readership and the philosophical value of his study.
