Abstract

The article states that medieval Europe remained enchanted for more than five centuries by the captivating legend of Prester John, the Christian king who reigned over a faraway land. It mentions that letters attributed to Prester John were circulated throughout Europe from approximately 1165, despite the fact that the legendary Christian king and his army never appeared to assist the Crusaders, as Bishop Hugh of Jabala had mentioned him during a meeting with Pope Eugenius III in 1145.
