Abstract
The article focuses on how Black family ties were important in the plot and amidst the trials held during the 1822 Vesey Conspiracy. The author explains the history of the conspiracy among free Blacks and enslaved people to attack the city of Charleston, South Carolina, on June 28, 1822, discusses the role of leader free Black man Denmark Vesey, and examines how slave families reacted to slave rebellions.
