Abstract
The article discusses the life and work of filmmaker Billy Wilder who never sacrifice comedic or romantic force in his films. It mentions his films "Double Indemnity" and "Sunset Blvd." are noir classics, and "Ace in the Hole" is regarded as one of the most cynical movies ever made. It also mentions genre as a kind of contract between filmmakers and audiences, a "static, dynamic system" in which each genre film is a satisfactory or unsatisfactory attempt to fulfill the contract.
