Abstract
The article reconsiders the age of Juliet in William Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." It presents sources on the age of Juliet and her level of maturity versus the threshold between childhood and adulthood. Historical evidence are provided regarding the behavior of individuals aged 14 and above, their involvement in leisure activities and obligations to attend church services, and the prevailing cultural norms that influenced Shakespeare's decision to depict Juliet as under 14.
