Abstract

The article focuses on Carla Accardi’s 1972 exhibition in Rabat and her artistic encounters with Moroccan modernism, particularly the School of Casablanca, which included artists Farid Belkahia, Mohammed Chabâa, and Mohamed Melehi. Accardi’s work, such as her Tent installation, engaged with motifs and materials resonant with Moroccan aesthetics, marking the beginning of her frequent travels to Morocco. The essay situates these interactions within a broader call to reframe modern Italian art studies beyond Euro-American frameworks toward a Mediterranean-centered perspective. This approach highlights transnational artistic exchanges and the politics and poetics of the South as a fluid cultural region.
