Abstract

The article discusses the challenge faced by grocery retailers in responding to the growth of online markets. Despite the popularity of online grocery shopping, it is a highly unprofitable channel due to the significantly increased labor required. The article presents three options for grocery retailers: doubling down on the traditional in-store model, making online customers pay extra, or becoming more efficient at online operations. The choices made by Trader Joe's, Wegmans, and Walmart are highlighted as examples for other retailers to consider. [Extracted from the article]
