Abstract
The newly globalized world has established a dynamic international order. It has compelled international actors to formulate and dissolve strategies and alliances while embracing modernization. World trade has emerged as a critical aspect, particularly regarding the channels through which it will flow, which have gained significant importance in past decades. Additionally, the interests and geopolitics that influence commercial exchange must be taken into account. Consequently, this article proposes a likely prospective scenario regarding the relationship between the Suez Canal and the North--South International Transport Corridor. The methodology consists of a mixed approach, first reviewing the literature on both maritime routes and the actors involved, taking into consideration aspects such as their geopolitical interests and employing realist theory, and then, using the prospective software Morphol, analyzing the most probable outcomes for global trade. The most plausible scenario is presented and discussed to help anticipate what will happen regarding maritime trade in the next decades. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
