Abstract

The US Supreme Court has allowed billionaire Stephen Ross' company, Relevent Sports LLC, to proceed with a lawsuit against FIFA and the United States Soccer Federation Inc. The lawsuit accuses the soccer governing bodies of illegally preventing Ross from organizing regular-season matches between foreign teams in the US. Ross has been attempting to arrange such matches for years but claims that FIFA and US Soccer wanted to protect Major League Soccer's monopoly on regular-season games. The Supreme Court's decision upholds a federal appeals court ruling that allowed Relevent Sports to pursue antitrust claims against FIFA and US Soccer. [Extracted from the article]
