Abstract

The article focuses on the significant yet often overlooked contributions of Lucia Moholy, a Czech-born photographer, to the Bauhaus movement. Despite her pivotal role in defining the visual identity of the Bauhaus through her photographs of its architecture and design, Moholy faced exclusion from its historical narrative, largely due to misogyny and the geopolitical upheavals of mid-twentieth-century Europe. The upcoming exhibition "Lucia Moholy: Exposures" aims to highlight her extensive work beyond photography, including writing and documentary filmmaking, while addressing the reasons for her historical neglect. The article also discusses her struggles as a Jewish woman in a male-dominated field and the challenges she faced during the rise of the Nazi regime. [Extracted from the article]
