Abstract

The article examines how the Apple TV+ series *Manhunt*, based on James Swanson's book *Manhunt: The 12 Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer*, portrays the 12-day search for John Wilkes Booth following his assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. The seven-episode show follows Secretary of War Edwin Stanton’s efforts to capture Booth and depicts the broader conspiracy involving Booth’s accomplices, including attempts on Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William Seward. The series highlights historical details such as Booth’s use of Confederate safehouses and the involvement of Black Americans in the manhunt. While the show explores Booth’s motivations as a Confederate sympathizer seeking fame and chaos, it acknowledges that the full origins and funding of the assassination remain unresolved.
