Abstract
"The First Cold War" is a comprehensive history of the Russo-British rivalry during the imperial age, from Peter the Great to the 1907 Triple Entente. The conflict, known as the "Great Game," was a battle for influence in Central Asia between the two colonial empires. While military interventions were used to acquire territories, open warfare between Britain and Russia did not occur. Instead, the rivalry played out through intrigue, threats, and diplomatic maneuvering. The book explores the perspectives of both countries and how their rivalry eventually shifted the balance of power in Europe. The mutual suspicion and hostility between Russia and Britain continue to impact their bilateral relations today. [Extracted from the article]
