Abstract

The article focuses on how several stars at the 2025 Met Gala honored Josephine Baker, a Black dancer, civil rights activist, and fashion icon known for her bold style and pioneering role as the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture. Although the gala celebrated Black Dandyism, a movement spotlighting men's fashion, many attendees paid tribute to Baker by adopting her signature looks, including her tuxedo style, hairstyles, and iconic gowns. Notable figures such as Quinta Brunson, A$AP Rocky, Dua Lipa, Venus Williams, Megan Thee Stallion, and Gigi Hadid drew inspiration from Baker’s fashion and queer style legacy, reflecting her enduring influence on contemporary fashion and culture.
