Abstract

The article focuses on the letters written by Mary, Queen of Scots, between 1578 and 1584 which have been deciphered by computer scientist George Lasry and his colleagues Norbert Biermann and Satoshi Tomokiyo. Topics include the number of ciphers used by Mary in her correspondence, how the decipherment of the letters was achieved, and a mix of political discussion and personal complaint discovered in Mary's letters that are mostly addressed to French ambassador to England Michel de Castelnau.
