Abstract

The article discusses a significant study on the effectiveness of Montessori education, led by a psychologist from the University of Virginia. This nationwide, randomized study involved 588 children from various public Montessori schools and found that those enrolled in Montessori programs exhibited stronger outcomes in reading, memory, social understanding, and executive function by the end of kindergarten compared to their peers in conventional preschool programs. Additionally, the study revealed that Montessori education is more cost-effective, saving districts an average of $13,127 per child over three years. The researchers plan to investigate the long-term effects of Montessori education as children progress into later grades. [Extracted from the article]
