Abstract
The article presents a memoir of the author's experience of joining and leaving a meditation group that turned out to be a cult. It examines the psychological and social factors that make people vulnerable to cult influence and the challenges of recovering from cult trauma. It also criticizes the popular cult narratives that often oversimplify and sensationalize the phenomenon of cults in the U.S.
