Abstract

The article focuses on Harry Stewart was flying five thousand feet over the Luftwaffe base at Wels, Austria with six other Tuskegee airmen in their distinctive red-tailed P-51 Mustangs when someone in his squadron yelled that there were four German fighters below. It mentions Mustang's speed brought Harry within firing range and concentrated on the closer of the two German aircraft, then squeezed off a few short bursts from his six wing-mounted .50-caliber machine guns.
