Abstract

The article discusses the Greek Civil War that took place after the Varkiza Agreement. The conflict was driven by ideological differences and mutual enmity between the communist resistance groups and the Athens government. The government, supported by right-wing extremists, implemented a policy of political oppression and violence known as the White Terror to suppress leftists and eliminate the leftist threat to their power. The article also mentions the brutal treatment of political inmates in island prisons, as well as the actions of the communist resistance groups, including the Red Terror and the forced removal of Greek children. The involvement of the British and American governments further polarized the conflict. [Extracted from the article]
