Abstract
I argue that the proposed separation of the enactive project into two distinct ones is misguided. Separating "utopian" (theoretical) from "scientific" (empirical/practical) enactive work obscures how the two interplay dialectically. Instead, using the terms utopian and scientific in Engels's sense can be a helpful way of understanding development and progress in work on enaction, while, paradoxically, the authors' approach is utopian in Engels's sense.
