Abstract
This article examines the Unification Church's shift in fundraising focus from Japan to the United States amid political and financial crises following the 2022 assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was linked to the church. Founded in 1954 by Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the church has amassed significant global political and business influence, including ownership of media outlets and involvement with prominent U.S. politicians, while facing accusations of cult-like practices and aggressive fundraising tactics that have financially devastated members, particularly in Japan. Internal family conflicts and splinter groups, such as Sean Moon's Rod of Iron Ministries, have further complicated the church's operations, with the organization now intensifying efforts to recruit and raise funds in the U.S., leveraging political connections amid concerns about its impact on members and broader society.
