Abstract
The article reviews several recent classical piano recordings, focusing on interpretations of works by Mozart, Schumann, Nicolaou, Rachmaninov, Beethoven, and others. Peter Donohoe’s robust yet sensitive approach to Mozart’s piano sonatas (K282, K457, K545) and Fantasia K475 is highlighted, with some critique of his omission of a repeat in K545. The Cypriot composer Vassos Nicolaou’s Études and Frames, performed by Tamara Stefanovich and Pierre-Laurent Aimard, are noted for their complex rhythms and Ligeti-inspired sonorities. Jimin Oh-Havenith’s Schumann performances, including the First Piano Sonata and Fantasie Op. 17, are praised for intimacy and tone despite some recording limitations. Other featured artists include Sarah Beth Briggs, Joseph Moog, Kai Adomeit, and Alexander Tchobanov, whose recordings explore a range of repertoire with varying degrees of interpretative insight and technical mastery.
