Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at SWPS University has revisited the famous Milgram experiment to explore the causes of obedience to authority. The study found that the physical proximity of the experimenter to the participants promoted obedience, while the physical proximity of the learner decreased it. The researchers proposed a theoretical model that considers the relationship between the participant and the experimenter, as well as the participant and the learner, to explain the participants' behavior. The study also confirmed that physical distance plays a role in shaping reactions to the suffering of others. [Extracted from the article]
