Abstract
The article explores the significance of wedding rituals and court ceremonies as "scenarios of power" in eighteenth-century Russian political culture. It discusses Richard Wortman's concept of scenarios as essential for understanding absolute monarchy in Russia and the loyalty of the nobility. The text also examines the evolution of wedding rituals, the role of weddings in political life, and the combination of pagan and Christian elements in Russian ceremonies. Additionally, it highlights the importance of the bride in the wedding ritual and the transformation of funeral and victory celebrations in imperial Russia. The article provides a critical analysis of Wortman's ideas and offers new insights into the study of court ceremonies in the Petrine era. [Extracted from the article]
