Abstract

This article discusses the Cuban Missile Crisis and other incidents during the Cold War that brought humanity close to nuclear annihilation. In 1962, the US discovered Soviet nuclear missile sites being constructed in Cuba, leading to a tense standoff between the two superpowers. Eventually, a secret deal was made, with the USSR removing missiles from Cuba and the US removing missiles from Turkey. The article also mentions other incidents, known as "Broken Arrows," where accidental firing, launching, or loss of nuclear weapons occurred. Both the US and the Soviet Union experienced these near-misses, highlighting the dangers of nuclear weapons. [Extracted from the article]
