Abstract

The article comments on the student protests across U.S. universities and colleges over Israel's war in Gaza. It recognizes the antisemitic elements in the protest movement and provides a historical perspective on the political and cultural conflicts, focusing on the civil rights movement, war on poverty, passage of the Voting Rights Act and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in the 1960s. It points out the impossibility to recover the American idealism and innocence in the 1960s.
