Abstract

The article focuses on improving the piezoelectric performance of BiScO₃-PbTiO₃ (BS-PT) ceramics for high-temperature applications by employing a sintering-aid-assisted template grain growth (TGG) strategy. Using B₂O₃-CuO as sintering aids and ⟨001⟩-oriented BaTiO₃ templates, the researchers achieved highly textured BS-PT ceramics (logtering factors >99%) with enhanced piezoelectric coefficients (d₃₃ up to 612 pC/N) and an improved electromechanical coupling factor (k₃₃ up to 84.8%) while maintaining Curie temperatures around 370–402 °C. The study addresses the longstanding limitation of low electromechanical coupling in BS-PT ceramics and suggests these textured ceramics as promising candidates for high-temperature piezoelectric transducers and actuators, although challenges remain in reducing porosity caused by long sintering times.
