Abstract

The article focuses on Russian disinformation warfare concerning the Holodomor, the 1932–33 famine recognized by Ukraine as genocide. It outlines how the Russian government and affiliated historians deny the Holodomor's genocidal nature by reframing it as an all-Union tragedy, minimizing Ukrainian losses, criminalizing Holodomor research, and promoting narratives that undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and historical identity. This denial is part of a broader hybrid war involving media, propaganda, and influence operations aimed at discrediting Ukrainian scholarship and erasing Ukraine's historical narrative. The article emphasizes the ongoing struggle of Ukrainian scholars and civil society to assert the Holodomor's recognition as genocide amid Russian efforts to distort history and suppress dissent.
