Abstract
Here are some lines he wrote in 1984 (and you will see a definition of democracy embedded in them): Democracy may, after all, turn out to have been a historical accident, a brief parenthesis that is closing before our eyes. ARTICLES IN some quarters, "democracy" is a fighting word. But "on the day that real democracy and freedom come to China", they said, "we must erect another Goddess of Democracy here in the square: monumental, towering, and permanent." In short, democracy is a modern means for achieving government truly "of the people, by the people, and for the people.". [Extracted from the article]
