Abstract
On April 18, 2024, the United Nations Security Council took a vote to recognize Palestine as a state member of the United Nations. Algeria, France, Slovenia, Malta, Guyana, Ecuador, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and China supported the recognition, while the United Kingdom and Switzerland abstained, and the United States opposed it. However, there is a measure called the "Uniting for Peace" resolution that allows the General Assembly to consider the matter and make recommendations if the Security Council fails to act due to lack of unanimity among permanent members. The fight for recognition will now move to the General Assembly. [Extracted from the article]
