Abstract
The Chicago City Council recently passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, in response to the International Court of Justice's ruling that Israel's actions may be causing genocide. The resolution, titled "Uniting for Peace," was introduced by Alderman Rosanna Rodriguez-Sanchez and Alderman Daniel La Spata and received support from a diverse coalition of organizations in Chicago. Despite opposition and threats, the resolution passed with a tie-breaking vote from Mayor Brandon Johnson. This resolution adds to the growing momentum in the United States, with 48 cities now having passed similar resolutions, and highlights the power of determined organizers to effect change.
