Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC) in Rome, emphasizing its historical development, political affiliations, and international influence in film education. Founded in 1935, the CSC has maintained a strong artistic and experimental ethos, navigating Italy’s shifting political landscape from fascism through various postwar governments, with leadership changes reflecting broader political currents. The school’s international vocation is highlighted through its longstanding connections with global film institutions, notably the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba, and its role within the International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT). An extended interview with Roberto Perpignani, a distinguished Italian film editor and CSC instructor, underscores the CSC’s commitment to international collaboration, cultural exchange, and the evolution of film editing pedagogy. The article also includes an appendix listing international CSC alumni across various disciplines, illustrating the school’s global reach.
