Abstract
The article reviews recent recordings and editions of choral and organ music, focusing on works by composers such as Joseph Fort Briggs, J.S. Bach, Francesco Scarlatti, and Joseph Haydn. It highlights a disciplined and emotionally impactful performance of Briggs's Requiem by the King's College choir, a scholarly reconstruction of Bach's St Mark Passion by Andreas Fischer, and energetic renditions of Scarlatti's polychoral works by the Armonico Consort. The article also discusses organ music editions, including Harold Feller's arrangement of Bach's Sinfonia and Pieter Dirksen's edition of Scheidemann's Choralfantasien, noting their technical demands and historical significance. Additionally, it presents Morten Schuldt-Jensen's innovative SAM-Klang vocal score of Haydn's The Creation, which adapts the traditional four-part choir into a three-part arrangement (Soprano, Alto, Men) to accommodate smaller ensembles, offering a practical solution for contemporary choral societies.
